PRIDE Mentor Program

New to campus? Looking to meet new friends or learn more about LGBT student life at TU? Feeling stressed about coming out to roommate, friends or family? Questioning? We are here for you!

What is the PRIDE Mentor Program?

The PRIDE Mentor Program is for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students on campus who want to be connected.  Our goal is to help students acclimate and experience the most success possible while a student here at TU!

What can a mentor do for me?

A mentor can show you around campus, connect you with various groups and resources, share his or her experience while they've been a student, or just be a friend when you are dealing with some of those more tough situations- roommates, parents, relationships, etc.

Request a Mentor!

To be paired with a mentor, please contact the Mentor Program at towsonlgbtmentor@gmail.com. We will set up a time to meet with you, get to know a little bit about you and find out what you are looking for in a mentor. Then we pair you with the mentor that will be most beneficial to your needs. We will check in periodically to see how things are going.  In the end, we really want you to feel like you have a community here at TU and connect you to resources that will help you to be the healthiest and happiest student possible!

Want to become a mentor?

To become a mentor, please contact the Mentor Program at towsonlgbtmentor@gmail.com. In order to become a mentor, we ask that you attend tow half-day trainings that prepare you with information about common concerns facing LGBT students and useful helping skills (active listening, how to make a referral, crisis intervention, etc).  We host a half-day mentor training each fall and each spring semester. Our fall training is coming up!  RSVP to towsonlgbtmentor@gmail.com.

Meet the Mentors....

Tia

Jim
Adrienne
Hello future mentees! My name is Tia and I now identify as a Transensual Lesbian Femme. I am a friend, daughter, sister, gay mother, and a transgender ally. I look at myself as the realistic cloud over everyone's life: I answer questions with truth, be positive while being honest, and love having opinionated conversations. I laugh, I cry, I'm hard, I'm soft, and I try to handle life as it comes at me. Live Love Learn Laugh.
Hi, my name is Jim and I am new to Towson and the Queer Community. I am interested in disability issues. I am outgoing and easy to talk to. If you see me on campus, feel free to say hi!
Hey all, I am Adrienne. I am a lesbian, genderqueer, androgynous, libertarian-socialist, longboarding, mohawked, crazy individual. I'm a psychology and criminal justice major with an minor in LGBT studies. If I could be attached to anything for life, it would be the constitution. I do not know you (yet), but I will probably love you. I make lots of jokes with puns. Keep it sexy.

Carrie
Hello World! I'm Erisel Cruz and I love people. I'm a compassionate workaholic, who, true to contradiction, is also very lazy. I'm a Jackie-of-all-Trades, so I know a bit of everything. I try to be as honest as possible, which sometimes can be brutal even though I do practice tact as often as possible. And that's me. With love, Erisel
“Hello, hello! Zach here. I’m a junior currently majoring in Sociology and minoring in LGBT Studies. I’m extremely passionate about all things LGBT, about sexual assault awareness, prevention and response and about sex positive education for one and all. I care a great deal about the LGBT community and, to be quite honest, about all people in general, at times probably too much for my own good. You could say I’m a bit involved on campus, what with Co-Coordinating the PRIDE Mentor Program, interning in LGBT Student Development, serving on the University Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Committee, working in the Sexual Assault Awareness Peer Education program at the Counseling Center, serving as a Civility Peer Educator in the Office of Student Conduct and Civility Education, and serving as the first Programming Coordinator for the newly-founded student organization SexOUTLoud. I thrive on being active and engaged. In life, I’m really just seeking to make an impact for the good on as many people as possible, and so long as anything and everything I’m doing contributes in some way to that calling I feel is mine to fulfill, I’d have to say life is pretty dag on good. Hope to see you around!”
Hi! My name is Carrie. I am a sophomore at Towson University. I am a painting major and an LGBT Studies minor. I enjoy singing showtunes at the top of my lungs, meeting new people, blowing bubbles and making people laugh. Even though I'm just a sophomore, I'm involved on campus especially with QSU and the LGBT community. In the future, I hope to be happily settled in as an Art professor in an adorable college town enjoying my long fought for rights as a queer woman.

Hey there! My name is Reyn. I am a sophomore, Psychology major and LGBT Studies minor. A little about me…I am a Gemini, I am in love with Regina Spektor, I have an obsession with long socks, and I have a passion for the mental wellbeing of the LGBTQ community. Even though I am relatively new to Towson's campus, I have become involved in the QSU, the speakOUT Speaker's Bureau, and the PRIDE Mentor Program…but I am obviously more interested in getting to know you! I love meeting new people—so if you see me around campus, feel free to say hi! Can’t wait to meet you!
Hi everyone! My name is Kyle and I am a pansexual trans man. I’m a transfer student majoring in psychology, minoring in LGBT studies, and loving (almost) every minute of it. I’m very passionate about activism, especially where it concerns the LGBT community, mental health, and disability awareness. Oh, and I’m a bit of a science fiction and anime nerd (but only a bit…I don’t have time to be as nerdy as I’d like). If you see me around campus say hi…I promise I don’t bite.
Hi, I’m Jarael. I am a Junior in the Music Major, principal instrument is violin. I love the LGBT community at Towson, and I look forward to meeting new people at the beginning of the year!
