BBJ names TU one of the 'Best Places to Work in Greater Baltimore'
TU ranks in top five of large Baltimore companies surveyed
TOWSON, Md. (Sept. 18, 2008)—The Baltimore Business Journal named TU one of the region’s best large companies to work for in its third annual “BBJ Best Places to Work in Greater Baltimore” awards ceremony.
Rankings were determined solely through anonymous employee surveys. The Baltimore Business Journal advertised the “Best Places to Work” competition in its weekly newspapers and Web site for several months last winter. Nominees, including TU, distributed a workplace opinion survey of 38 questions designed by an independent organization, Kansas-based Quantum Market Research. The survey required employees to gauge agreement with statements ranging from the trustworthiness of bosses to their own job performance.
Finalists were selected in the three categories: Best Small Business (10-100 employees), Best Medium-Sized Business (101-499 employees), and Best Large Business (500-plus employees). TU finished fifth in the latter category, among a cohort that includes LifeBridge Health, MedStar Heath, McCormick & Company, and the VA Maryland Health Care System.
“I’m glad I came to TU,” says new hire Tasha Benn, a former emergency medical technician interviewed by the BBJ. Benn started working at TU as an administrative assistant in August. “First off, the location near downtown Towson is wonderful. Not only that, the people. Everybody seems real generous, upbeat, friendly, willing to help you if need be.
“It’s important to be comfortable in a place where you work,” Benn says. “The atmosphere is just perfect, makes me feel so at home.”
