The Department of Communications and Media Relations functions as the university's news bureau, serving as the primary source of information about the institution, its people and its programs.

Communications and Media Relations serves as the initial contact for reporters, producers and other media representatives seeking information about Towson or wishing to interview faculty/staff experts.

Should an emergency arise, Communications and Media Relations staff assume a crisis-management communications role. The department develops and distributes the University's Emergency Closing Policy in consultation with the Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
