TU signs lease, opens Business Globalization Center

TOWSON, Md. (Nov. 1, 2006)–Towson University has signed a lease for 5,100 square feet of office space at the Terrace Dale complex, 7401 York Road, which will serve as home for the Towson University Business Globalization Center, the university’s first international incubator for early-stage companies.

The center will serve as gateway to international markets for product-oriented Maryland companies and as a magnet for foreign companies looking to market their products in the mid-Atlantic region. Also, it will offer workshops and resources to companies in the greater business community to help them compete in a global marketplace.

Companies working on projects from medical diagnostics to cryptoanalysis to computer gaming and beyond will receive office space. Center staff will help these and other businesses develop international markets and export their products overseas.

"On a large scale Towson University focuses on developing partnerships that address work force needs. However, we can assist organizations individually through targeted programs including our business globalization incubator and Small Business Development Center. If you are looking for help, looking for a partner, call Towson University," said Towson President Robert Caret.

Towson University’s partnerships with the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development, Maryland TEDCO, and support from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development will be critical to the incubator’s success. Support from private sector companies and the federal government have also helped the incubator to get started.

“The Business Globalization Center holds great promise for business development in the Baltimore region," said James Clements, vice president for economic and community outreach. "Synergies and partnerships with government agencies and businesses will ensure that its development, deployment and operations will be successful."
