James DiLisio named interim provost of Towson University
Associate provost, geography professor will begin new appointment June 4
TOWSON, Md. (April 24, 2012)—President Maravene Loeschke has named James DiLisio as interim provost of Towson University. DiLisio has served as associate provost since 2010. His appointment to the interim position is effective June 4, 2012.
The selection follows Provost Marcia Welsh’s announcement earlier this month that she is leaving her position to serve as president of East Stroudsburg University.
DiLisio holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, a master's degree from Wayne State University and a bachelor's degree from Salem State University.
He joined Towson in 1975, and is currently a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning. He has also served as chairperson and acting director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
The provost search will begin as soon as possible and be carried out by a committee formed under the direction of Marina Cooper, deputy chief of staff, and chaired by Tim Sullivan, chair of the Department of Economics. The search committee member list and an advertisement for the position will be released in the coming weeks.
"It is our hope that we will be prepared to conduct campus interviews at the beginning of the fall semester and have the new provost in place no later than January 2013," says Loeschke. Until then, she says DiLisio will "provide the continuity and depth of experience necessary in the interim."
