Mather scholarship to honor Ehrlich reaches $200,000
TOWSON, Md. (Dec. 7, 2007)—The scholarship fund established by Dennis and Cynthia Mather in honor of former Gov. Robert Ehrlich has grown to $200,000 thanks to a recent fundraiser sponsored by the Mathers, attended by 100 guests.
Dennis Mather, a member of Towson University's Board of Visitors, and his wife, established the scholarship two years ago to honor their long-time friend and his dedication to higher education and to make the college experience a possibility for students who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
Robert L. Caret, president of Towson University, said, "Denny Mather's generosity in the field of education, in terms of both his counsel and his financial largesse, has significantly benefited our community. In establishing and promoting this scholarship fund in the name of his friend, Bob Ehrlich, Denny underscores the importance of education accessibility."
Mather is also a member of the Advisory Board to the Maryland State Department of Education for Adult Education and a member of the Board of Directors of Baltimore Reads, Inc. A 1972 graduate of Towson University, he earned an MBA and holds the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and the Chartered Financial Consultant designation.
