TOWSON, Md. (Aug. 7, 2007)—Changes and improvements to our campus are under way! Parking policy updates have been posted throughout the 2006-2007 academic year via the Parking and Transportation Services Web site, theTU homepage, Daily Digest announcements, payroll inserts, and stories in eTU and The Towerlight. Parking and Transportation Services staff alsoheld several information forums for faculty, staff and students during the spring term.
The start of the new academic year is fast approaching. Here are a few reminders about new parking policies that will be in effect as of August 20, 2007. Please read the information belowcarefully so you understand how the changes affect you. Detailed updates and announcements about parking, construction and traffic patterns can be found on the Parking and Transportation Services Website: parking.towson.edu.
Free Parking
Free parking on campus is available after 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday and after 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
TU Visitors
Don’t put your visitors/guests in a parking predicament! Visitors must park in designated visitors lots. They (or your department) must pay for parking.
Designated visitor lots are: Towsontown Garage (primary/largest location); Administration Building front lot; Lot 11 outside Union Garage (8 spaces); and all Towson Center lots except the gated faculty/staff lot (21a).
Glen Drive street-area near Stephens Hall (Lot 2) is restricted to handicapped parking and visitors whose parking will be paid for by the department. Anyone with a valid state handicapped plate/placard and a valid TU permit may park in this area. Faculty/staff parking has been relocated to Glen Garage.
Visitors Rates are:
Main campus and Administration - $2/hour up to $12/day max OR $4/day flat rate if paid by department.
Towson Center rates: $2/hour up to $6/day max OR $3/day if paid by department.
Evening rate: $2 flat rate after 3 p.m. valid in commuter and visitor lots.
Departments that wish to pay for their guests’ parking must request a code by submitting a "Department Visitor Code Request" form from Parking and Transportation Services. Visitors will input this code at campus pay stations to receive their permits, at which time the department will be charged the prevailing rate.
**Yellow Visitor permits will not be valid as of August 31, 2007.**
Events/Groups
If possible, events with 10 or more vehicles should be scheduled during off-peak hours. Peak hours are 6 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
Please be aware that if your event takes place during peak hours, your visitors will likely be provided parking at the Towson Center.
Handicapped Parking
Additional handicapped spaces have been placed on Glen Drive near Stephens, Van Bokkelen, and Smith halls. Individuals displaying valid handicapped permits may park in a designated handicapped space or a visitor space when all handicapped spaces are full.
Parking Permits
Effective August 20, 2007, permits will only be valid in their designated lot. However all permits are valid in Towson Center lots with the exception of the gated faculty/staff lot (21a).
Enforcement
In order to help ensure the availability of spaces for permit holders and to maintain a safe environment, policies will be strictly enforced through the issuance of citations and the use of towing. Avoid the Fine, Read the Sign.
