TU to host Maryland Special Olympics Summer Games, June 10-12

Volunteers encouraged to support athletes in opening ceremony 'Cheer Teams'

TOWSON, Md. (May 31, 2011)—Towson University will host the Maryland Special Olympics 2011 Summer Games from June 10-12 on the TU campus.

It all begins with a block party and opening ceremonies on Friday, June 10, followed by two full days of competition featuring athletes from around the state. More than 2,000 athletes, coaches and volunteers will converge on the TU campus for the games, which include individual and team events in aquatics, track and field, bocce, cheerleading and softball.

Special Olympics Maryland is now accepting registrations for Cheer Teams—groups of family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors and classmates who will pack the Towson Center during the opening ceremonies. The teams will cheer on the Summer Games competitors as they enter the arena during the Parade of Athletes and throughout the uplifting and exciting event.
