Towson University senior named Debater of the Year in national competition
TU team takes second place overall
TOWSON, Md. (March 27, 2009)—Towson University senior Dayvon Love has been named Top Speaker and Debater of the Year at the 2009 Cross Examination Debate Association National Championship. Love and his teammate Deven Cooper placed second in the national championship, defeated only in the final round by the University of Oklahoma.
Love and Cooper are members of Towson University’s Speech and Debate Team, as well as alumni of the Baltimore Urban Debate League. The duo made history at last year's CEDA National Championship, becoming the first African American team to take first place at the competition.
Founded in 1971 as the Southwest Cross Examination Debate Association, CEDA is now the primary national association promoting policy topic intercollegiate academic debate.
In cooperation with the National Debate Tournament Committee and the American Debate Association, CEDA formulates the annual intercollegiate policy debate topic used in tournament competition throughout the nation.
