U.S. News & World Report continues to give TU high marks

TOWSON, Md. (Aug. 22, 2008) — The U.S. News & World Report 2009 America’s Best Colleges guide ranks Towson University eighth in the Top Public Master’s (North) category, placing it among the best public master’s institutions of its kind.

The number eight ranking is up one spot from last year when the institution placed ninth in its category. The university ranked fourth in its category in its Peer Assessment Score.

The annual issue also ranked Towson University among the best public master’s institutions in freshman retention, campus ethnic diversity, number of international students enrolled and economic diversity.

Commenting on this year’s rankings, President Robert L. Caret said, “I am pleased that U.S. News has again recognized Towson University as one of the best institutions of its kind. A campus with 20,000 students faces more challenges than a campus of one to two thousand. We are proud of the educational environment we have created as well as the growth in size, quality and recognition we are experiencing.”

“Although Towson addresses the variety and magnitude of issues peculiar to large, complex metropolitan universities, we continue to excel in competition with smaller institutions.”
