Radio station takes top spot in Baltimore magazine poll
TOWSON, Md. (July 26, 2010)—Towson University's WTMD-FM has been voted "Best Radio Station for Music" in Baltimore magazine's 2010 readers' poll. The poll was conducted as part of the magazine's annual "Best of Baltimore" contest and collected votes from more than 3,000 respondents.
"We're thrilled to be voted best radio station in Baltimore," says WTMD General Manager Steve Yasko. "We work hard to bring energetic, intelligent music to our listeners and supporters. To be honored on this list tells us that we're doing it right."
The poll results reflect WTMD's growing listener base in Baltimore and beyond. Thanks to a diverse playlist and strong support for local music, WTMD has become one of the most popular public radio stations in Maryland.
WTMD sponsors hundreds of performances and events each year, from live in-studio acts to outdoor concerts. The station's flagship event, the free First Thursday summer concert series, runs annually from May through September and showcases both national and local acts.
In 2009 WTMD debuted "The Baltimore Channel," which broadcasts local music around the clock on the station's HD-2 frequency. Live streams of WTMD and The Baltimore Channel are available online at www.wtmd.org.
