Ted Zaleski named Interim Director of Athletics at Towson
TOWSON, Md. (July 1, 2010)—Towson University President Robert L. Caret named Ted Zaleski Jr. the Interim Director of Athletics effective July 1, 2010. Zaleski replaces Mike Hermann, who resigned on June 15.
As Chief of Staff to the President since 2003, Zaleski has had full oversight of Athletics. He will remain Chief of Staff and assume the Interim Director position until the Director of Athletics Search Advisory Committee completes its work and a new Director of Athletics is named.
In his role as Interim Director of Athletics, Zaleski will perform all Athletic Director duties and simultaneously serve as an internal consultant conducting a thorough analysis of Athletics operations as part of President Caret’s comprehensive review of Athletics.
Zaleski, who has been connected with Towson University since 1987, recently received the Alumni Association’s prestigious Spirit of the University Award, which honors a graduate or non-graduate who has directly influenced Towson University alumni, students or the university community.
He began teaching part-time in the political sciences department at Towson in 1987. In 1995, he became Director of the Leadership Institute, a year-long leadership program for TU faculty and staff members. Nearly 400 participants have completed the program since its inception.
In 2003, Zaleski led the President’s Transition Team and became the executive assistant to President Caret.
An avid supporter of Tiger Athletics, he is a member of the Blazer Club and funded a scholarship for an academically outstanding female athlete two years ago.
