TU Center for Adults with Autism featured on WBAL-TV

TOWSON, Md. (Oct. 29, 2009)—Towson University is giving some students a chance to get an unexpected education in the field of autism. The Center for Adults with Autism pairs up student mentors with adults who have autism spectrum disorder, to help develop social, language and motor skills of young autistic adults.

For some of the student mentors, this is their first experience with autism, and it’s been eye-opening.

“Students from any major can learn to be a mentor,” says Charlotte Exner, dean of the College of Health Professions. “As they go out into society, they will use what they learn about adults with autism to create new opportunities in the workforce and in their communities.”
