Towson and T. Rowe Price partner to build Finance Lab
State-of-the-art facility will simulate real-time trading environment, open in August 2012
TOWSON, Md. (Oct. 28, 2011)—The Towson University College of Business and Economics will soon establish a state-of-the-art finance laboratory, made possible in part by a grant of $250,000 from the T. Rowe Price Foundation. The lab will simulate a real-time trading environment and position TU at the forefront of finance education and research.
“The trustees of the foundation recognized that the electronic business and finance laboratory at Towson will be accessible to over 3,000 business undergraduate and graduate students each year,” says Ann Allston Boyce, president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation. “Providing hands-on educational experiences that help graduates prepare for the workforce is important to the foundation, the community and to T. Rowe Price.”
With up-to-date financial data and cutting-edge technology, the T. Rowe Price Finance Laboratory will provide TU students with the ability to value and price complex securities and investments in a simulated trading environment—all in real-time. Students will analyze financial institutions, financial engineering, and corporate and international finance, and take courses in financial modeling, equity analysis, fixed income analysis and risk management.

Rowe Price is a leading financial firm in our area, and we are pleased to name the lab in its honor,” explains Joanne Li, chair of the TU Department of Finance. “The finance lab will significantly impact our students’ learning by providing hands-on experience, reducing on-the-job training time and creating a competitive advantage for their future employment.”
The T. Rowe Price Finance Laboratory will be housed in the College of Business and Economics, on the first floor of Stephens Hall. Construction will begin in spring 2012 and is scheduled for completion in August of that year, just in time for the fall term.
