What to Expect
Discover the benefits of online education
Online education gives you the opportunity to take a course or earn your degree in a flexible time frame. The online learning environment brings Towson University's classroom to your home, business or other locations convenient for you. It does not restrict you to a designated time slot for class meetings.
Learning in an online environment
Online courses are available via the Web. Students are not required to come to campus but instead attend and participate in the course via computer.
Most of Towson's online courses are not self-paced, independent study. You will interact with your professor and other students, actively participate in online discussions, blogs or wikis and submit assignments according to deadlines set by the professor. Some instructors interact with students through real-time web-conferencing, Skype or by phone.
Grading is done by your professor, and recorded in Blackboard. Final grades are recorded in Towson Online Services as part of your official academic record.
Online courses are held year-round
Online courses follow the university Academic Calendar.
Online courses are taught by Towson faculty and experts in the field
In many cases, online courses are taught by the same faculty who teach face-to-face courses at Towson University. Some courses are taught by professionals from the community who are experts in their field. Faculty members will designate their office hours are how they prefer to be contacted in the syllabus.
