Health & Wellness
Towson University is committed to maintaining a healthy community. We offer a variety of services and programs across campus to promote health and wellness. These programs are designed to help students, faculty and staff live healthy, balanced lifestyles that incorporate the positive attitudes and productive behaviors related to many aspects of wellness.
Health Services
The Dowell Health Center provides health services for registered Towson University students, including care for common illnesses like cold and flu, immunizations, allergy treatments, emergency contraception, treatment for routine sport-related injuries, nutrition counseling and more. Students with minor medical problems can also visit the Dowell Health Center Fast Track Clinic. The health center accepts most forms of private insurance.
Counseling Services
Towson University's Counseling Center is the primary source of personal counseling and psychological help on campus for students. The center works with students to resolve emotional difficulties; improve personal skills; overcome the effects of trauma, disadvantage or substance abuse; and achieve personal goals. Staff counselors are equipped to provide students with psychiatric services, individual and couples counseling, alcohol and drug counseling, and more. Most Counseling Center services are provided free of charge.
Smoke-Free Campus
Towson University is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is prohibited on all university grounds, including exterior spaces. The smoke-free policy aims to reduce the health risks associated with exposure to second-hand smoke and ensure that all members of the campus community have access to clean air. For those who wish to quit, Towson's Dowell Health Center provides free smoking assessments and smoking cessation and education classes. Free nicotine replacement therapies are also available through the Dowell Health Center.
