Step 12: Complete TU Online AlcoholEDU Prevention Program

Deadline: August 21

Contact:  Division of Student Affairs - 410-704-2512

The information below pertains to students entering fall 2009. Information for students entering fall 2010 will be available during April 2010.

An important goal for all students is ensuring that you have a positive experience at Towson University and that you are aware of your rights and responsibilities as a member of our campus community. One way we do this is by educating all incoming students about alcohol, how it affects your mind and body, and how it can impact your college career and academic success.

To this end, we expect every first-year student to take AlcoholEdu for College, an online alcohol prevention program, before arriving on campus. You will be contacted in July by e-mail with instructions on how to long in online and complete the program.

Instructions for accessing AlcoholEdu are available below. If you have any questions or concerns about AlcoholEdu at any time, please call Dr. Jim Spivack, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at 410-704-2512.

Instructions for accessing AlcoholEdu

You may begin taking AlcoholEdu for College on Wednesday, July 29.  All you need to take the course is a computer with access to the Internet and audio capabilities. The course has two sections, both of which must be completed to fulfill this requirement:

  • Part 1 of the course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. This part ends after the Exam and Survey 2. You must earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass and receive credit for the course. The deadline for finishing Part 1 is Monday, August 21, 2009.

  • After you complete Part 1, you will receive an e-mail about 45 days later with instructions on completing Part 2.  The deadline to complete Part 2 is Friday, October 23.

The course includes three surveys that measure students’ alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors.  All survey responses are strictly confidential.  Towson University will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see individual students’ answers.  You can feel confident that providing truthful answers- no matter what they are- will not put you at risk for repercussions.

To take AlcoholEdu for College, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. If you don’t have one at home, most libraries have computers with internet access
