An important goal for all students is ensuring that you
have a positive experience at Towson University and that you are aware
of your rights and responsibilities as a member of our campus community.
One way we do this is by educating all incoming students about alcohol,
how it affects your mind and body, and how it can impact your college
career and academic success.
To this end, we expect every first-year student to take
AlcoholEdu for College, an online alcohol prevention program, before
arriving on campus. You will be contacted in July by email with
instructions on how to log in online and complete the program.
I
will be away for the summer and won’t have access to a
computer until I return to come back to school in
August. What should I do?The
AlcoholEdu program can be accessed from any computer, so
the student should be encouraged to log on periodically
to take and complete the program. If they will not have
access to any computer, they should be told that they
should complete it as soon as possible before coming to
campus.
Is the program required?Students will be told, in an e-mail
from Dr. Moriarty, that we expect every first year
student to take AlcoholEdu for College before arriving
on campus. The Vice President for Student Affairs has
made this expectation known, and will determine what
course of action to take if the course is not completed.
Our goal is to ensure that students are aware of the
importance the university places on educating all
incoming students about alcohol, how it affects the mind
and body, and how it can impact their college career and
academic success.
I don’t know what my Student ID is; how can I find out
what it is?On the registration page, the student
has the opportunity to create their own account using
their e-mail (TU email) and a password of their choice.
They will need to enter
their seven-digit
Student ID, which was sent to the student in their
acceptance letter, which will also be given at
orientation, and also can be found on their Student ID
card. It will also be on the letter/e-mail they received
informing them of the AlcoholEdu requirement.
What
should I do if I experience any difficulties with the
technological end of this program? What if I can’t log
in?
Should you experience any difficulties or require
support, the
AlcoholEduOnline
TechnicalSupport
Center
is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply
click on the
“Technical Help” button located in the upper right
hand corner of every AlcoholEdu for College screen. You
do not need to be logged into the course to access the
technological SupportCenter.
What
are the timelines for taking this course, and what do I
need to do to pass?Part 1 of the course takes
approximately 2
hours to complete, and can be done in multiple sittings.
This part ends after the Exam and Survey 2. You must
earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass and receive credit
for the course.
The deadline for finishing Part 1 is Friday, August 16,
2013.
When
will I get information about the next part of AlcoholEdu?
After you complete Part 1, you will receive an e-mail
about 45 days
later with instructions on completing Part 2.
The deadline for completing Part 2 is Thursday, October 17, 2013.
I transferred from another school and took it there and
passed it. Do I have to take it again? If you have
passed the course at another school, you do not need to
take it at this time. This program has been set up for
first time entering freshman.
How do I know if I will receive credit for the work I
did on AlcoholEdu?The passing grade is 70%. You can
confirm your score by calling
Outside the
Classroom at the toll free number 877-338-5001,
extension 295.
