Tiger Talk Events for Students

We know that during the transition to college, one of your top concerns is meeting other students. That’s why we’ve developed Tiger Talks, fun, pre-orientation events that will connect you with current students and other new students who have similar interests. You will be able to ask questions about what to expect from college life and learn strategies for a successful transition to TU. These events are not required and operate on a first-come-first serve basis. Space is limited; therefore early registration is encouraged. We strongly encourage you to kick off your Towson experience with these unique events. Dates for each session will be announced at the orientation website on April 1.

Orientation Events for Parents

Parent Drive-Ins

Parent Drive-Ins are especially helpful for families who have never sent a student to college. During these three-hour sessions parents and guardians will learn what to expect from the college transition, including the best ways to support their student. These events will be held at the same time as the Tiger Talk events and on move-in day; however, parents may attend any session date, even if their student is not attending the Tiger Talk program. Space is limited for the summer sessions so we encourage parents to register early. There will be additional orientation events for parents on move-in day, Saturday, August 24. Watch for the Parent Pride Special Edition newsletter coming your way in early June with a complete list of programs and activities.

Beginning April 1, visit Orientation website for more information and a complete list of dates for Tiger Talk and Parent Drive-In events.

A Message from the Vice President of Student Affairs

I know that as you receive this very important To-Do List, you find yourself living in two worlds—your current life and the life you are transitioning to at Towson University. I hope you are as excited to become part of the Towson university community as we are to welcome you.

As a student at Towson, you can expect to meet exceptional faculty and staff who will challenge you to think in new dimensions. I hope you will embrace the Towson University community as your home and become fully engaged in all aspects of your college experience. By taking full advantage of the many services, programs and learning opportunities that will be available to you, you will more likely have a satisfying and successful experience.

Towson University’s TIGER Pledge articulates expectations and standards of behavior for members of our community. The TIGER Pledge states:

As a TU student I will…

Take responsibility for myself and the choices I have made.

Imagine success and work hard to achieve my academic goals.

Give my best in showing respect for myself and others.

Engage in my community to make a difference.

Remember to pause to celebrate my accomplishments.

We often hear students say “it’s so different from high school”—not only the class work but also the freedom that comes from being a college student. It is not a coincidence that “take responsibility for myself and the choices I have made” is listed first. As you become a fully-engaged TU student, the choices you make and the consequences that stem from your decisions will impact your college career. You alone are responsible for your actions and your success at TU. For example, you have to decide to study or hang out with friends, to complete assignments without a faculty member reminding you, to accept the consequences for behavior and to be informed about university policy. Certainly you can count on programs, services and staff members to assist you in the acceptance of responsibility for your total experience.

Additional information about the Tiger Pledge and your responsibilities as a member of our community will be available in August. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

Go Tigers!

Deb Moriarty, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
