Deadline: August 27-30
Contact: New Student Programs - 410-704-2309 |
The To-Do List information below is for students entering fall 2011. Information for students entering fall 2012 will be available in mid-April.
Welcome to Towson is Towson University’s series of events to orient new
students. As a new student, you are expected to participate in all events.
There will be plenty of activities to keep you busy.
Visit the Orientation website for additional Welcome to Towson
information.
“Welcome to Towson” Events
Welcome to Towson is the university’s orientation and welcome
program. Attendance is required at Welcome to Towson events,
beginning with packet pick-up on Saturday, August 27. All new
resident and commuter students are expected to pick up their
Welcome to Towson packet at the University Union on Saturday,
August 27. This packet will include a detailed Welcome to Towson
schedule, a copy of your course schedule and course catalog
information. You will need these materials in preparation for several
important meetings during Welcome to Towson.
Key events include:
- Meeting your Orientation Leader (OL). Your OL is an upper-class
student who will assist you throughout your first term at TU.
- Meeting with your adviser to review your fall term schedule of
courses and make any necessary adjustments.
- Attending New Student Convocation, the official beginning of
your Towson University academic career.
- Other events include the Welcome Carnival and Welcome Concert.
Orientation Events for Parents and Families
Programs for parents and family members are an important part
of the transition of new students. Families are invited to attend a
variety of programs designed just for them. In late July parents can
choose to attend the Parent Drive-In Program. This program is for
parents only and is especially useful for families who have never sent
a student to college. Opportunities on the first Saturday of Welcome
to Towson (August 27) include the Parents Association Welcome
Tent and the Parent/Family Resource Fair. Watch for the Parent Pride
Special Edition Newsletter coming your way in late June with a
complete list of programs and activities.
September Celebration
Towson University begins each new academic year with September
Celebration, a month-long series of events and activities for the
entire campus community. The celebration includes free concerts,
comedians, athletic events, lectures, community service opportunities,
and plenty of activities to help you get involved with your campus
community and make the most of
college life.
You will receive the September
Celebration book during Welcome
to Towson. This book will provide
details on Student Government
Association (SGA) events, first
meetings of student clubs and
organizations, and office and
department open houses. You will
also have tons of opportunities to
enjoy free food and prizes.
A Message from the
Vice President for Student Affairs
I know that as you receive this very important To-Do-List, you
find yourself living in two worlds—your current life and the life
you are transitioning to at Towson University. I hope you are as
excited to become part of the Towson University community as
we are to welcome you.
As a student at Towson, you can expect to meet exceptional
faculty and staff who will challenge you to think in new
dimensions. I hope you will embrace the Towson University
community as your home and become fully engaged in all
aspects of your college experience. By taking full advantage of
the many services, programs and learning opportunities that will
be available to you, you will more likely have a satisfying and
successful experience.
Towson University’s TIGER Pledge articulates expectations and
standards of behavior for members of our community. The TIGER
Pledge states:
As a TU student I will…
Take responsibility for myself and the choices I have made.
Imagine success and work hard to achieve my academic goals.
Give my best in showing respect for myself and others.
Engage in my community to make a difference.
Remember to pause to celebrate my accomplishments.
We often hear students say “it’s so different from high
school”—not only the class work but also the freedom that
comes from being a college student. It is not a coincidence that“take responsibility for myself and the choices I have made”
is listed first. As you become a fully-engaged TU student,
the choices you make and the consequences that stem from
your decisions will impact your college career. You alone
are responsible for your actions and your success at TU. For
example, you have to decide to study or hang out with friends,
to complete assignments without a faculty member reminding
you, to accept the consequences for behavior and to be informed
about university policy. Certainly you can count on programs,
services and staff members to assist you in the acceptance of
responsibility for your total experience.
Additional information about the Tiger Pledge and your
responsibilities as a member of our community will be available
in August. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to
meeting you in the near future.
Go Tigers!
