PAYING FOR COLLEGE

Work Study and Employment

A federal work-study (FWS) job offers numerous advantages:

  • It's usually on-campus, it's convenient and the hours are flexible around your class schedule.
  • The money you earn is not included as student income when you apply for financial aid for the next year.
  • FWS jobs are located in almost every department on campus. Work can also be arranged off campus, if the work involves your academic major.
  • You may perform community service work in areas of social services, transportation, public safety, crime prevention and control at agencies identified in the National and Community Service Act of 1990, or in support services for students with disabilities and mentoring activities.

Students can find federal work-study jobs on campus or in approved off-campus organizations or agencies. The university encourages students to consider opportunities to work in community service organizations while they pursue their studies at TU. The Career Center maintains a list of available federal work-study positions.
