Step 12: Complete Immunization Requirements
Deadline: Complete Before Classes Begin
Contact: Dowell Health Center - 410-704-2466 |
The Dowell Health Center’s priority is to keep our
students and community healthy. All students
taking classes on the main TU campus or any of
our off-campus locations (Shady Grove, Southern
Maryland Higher Education Center, HEAT, and
Hagerstown) are required to complete the Towson
University Immunization and Tuberculosis screening
requirements. This must be done online on the Health
Center’s secure web portal.
Please follow the instructions below to get to
MyDowellHealth, our secure web portal:
- Go to the My Dowell Health Web Portal.
- You will be asked to log in with your Towson NetID.
- Go to the Forms link on the left hand side and read the instructions on
completing the required online forms.
- As part of the verification process, you must download a printable
immunization record and take it to your healthcare provider to complete
and sign. Keep a copy and return the original form by mail, fax or email
to Dowell Health Center, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252-0001; fax:
410-704-3715; email: immunizations@towson.edu.
- Use your copy to enter the dates of all required and recommended
vaccines and/or immune titers into the electronic Immunization Form. This
data is stored securely in your electronic health record and will be used to
determine compliance with the requirements.
- U.S. Citizens and Permanent Resident students must also complete the
online Tuberculosis Screening questionnaire. Follow the instructions on
the form and submit any required documentation to the Dowell Health
Center by mail or fax.
- International students on visas must come to the Dowell Health Center
upon their arrival at Towson for a TB screening visit.
PLEASE NOTE: Failure to meet the university’s mandatory immunization
and tuberculosis screening requirements in a timely manner will affect your
access to class scheduling.
Required Immunizations
New students may obtain all required vaccines (MMR, Tetanus-diphtheriapertussis,
Meningitis vaccine), and immune blood titers at the Dowell Health
Center prior to the start of classes. Appointments can be scheduled online
from the secure web portal (go to Appointments) or by calling 410-704-2466.
Charges will be billed to your tuition account or to your private insurance
(bring your insurance card with you). Representatives from the Dowell
Health Center will be available at orientation check-in to assist you.
If you intend to use the Dowell Health Center while you are a student at Towson or just wish to obtain any needed immunizations from us, then
complete the other online forms on the secure web portal prior to your visit.
This information is stored securely in your Dowell Health Center electronic
health record.

Student Health Insurance Plan
Need health insurance? All students should have insurance to protect against
high medical bills resulting from an unexpected serious illness or injury. Check
out the Towson-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan underwritten by
Aetna. The Spring/Summer plan provides coverage from January 15, 2012
through August 14, 2012. To view the plan brochure and enroll online, visit
the Dowell Health Center and click on Student Health Insurance.
Private Insurance Plan Billing at Dowell Health Center
The Dowell Health Center will bill most private insurance plans for services
provided at the health center if you wish us to do so. Please bring your
insurance card every time you visit the Dowell Health Center. We are
contracted as “preferred (in-network) providers” with several of the major
insurance companies that serve our students, which will mean less out-of-pocket cost to you. For more information regarding this service and to
determine if we are preferred providers for your insurance plan, visit the
Dowell Health Center website, or call us directly at 410-704-2466.
