
Evaluation of Transfer Credits
Optional GenEd Transfer Packages
The Office of Admissions will evaluate your previous courses and may award you an optional GenEd Transfer Package A, B or C. These packages vary according to the GenEd courses previously completed at the college or university sending your transcript information.
To be considered for a GenEd Transfer Package, students must have completed a minimum of 40 transferable credits of liberal arts course work prior to enrolling at Towson University. These courses must be comparable to those taken by current TU students. The 40 transferable credits must include the MHEC (Maryland Higher Education Commission) and liberal arts requirements listed below. Course work for transfer students not awarded a GenEd package will be applied toward Towson’s GenEd requirements on a course-by-course basis.
MHEC Requirements
1. One college-level freshman composition course (a grade equivalent of 2.0 or higher)
2. One college-level mathematics course (prerequisite: two years of high school algebra)
3. Two science courses (one must be a lab)
4. Two arts/humanities courses (must be different disciplines)
5. Two social science courses (must be different disciplines)
Liberal Arts Requirements
1. Emerging issues course (must include information technology)
2. One cultural diversity course
3. One global awareness course
