Receiving Aid

If Circumstances Change

Major changes in financial circumstances can affect your family's ability to manage the cost of higher education.  Certain conditions may allow us to recalculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to reflect a change that first occurs after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid has been completed.

For the 2013-2014 year, Towson University recognizes the following circumstances as special conditions:

  • Parent or spouse of student died after January 1, 2013
  • Parents have separated or married student has separated after January 1, 2013
  • Parents or an independent student (and spouse, if married) will experience an overall income reduction of at least 20 percent after January 1, 2013
  • Untaxed income has ceased or has been reduced after January 1, 2013
  • Parent or spouse of student suffered permanent and total disability after January 1, 2013

The Special Condition Form includes instructions on the documentation required to support the claim of a special condition.
