If Circumstances Change

Major changes in financial circumstances can affect your family's ability to manage the cost of higher education.  Certain conditions may allow us to recalculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to reflect a change that first occurs after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid has been completed.

 

Towson University currently recognizes the following special conditions:

  • Parent or spouse of student died after January 1 of the prior academic year
  • Parents have separated or married student has separated after January 1 of the prior academic year
  • Parents or an independent student (and spouse, if married) will experience an overall income reduction of at least 20 percent after January 1 of the prior academic year
  • Untaxed income has ceased or has been reduced after January 1 of the prior academic year
  • Parent or spouse of student suffered permanent and total disability after January 1 of the prior academic year

 

The Special Condition Form includes instructions on the documentation required to support the claim of a special condition. This form is available from:
