ELECTRONIC PROMISSORY
NOTE
If
you have a Federal Direct Student Loan which has an origination acceptance by the Loan Origination Center, an
Electronic Master Promissory Note
(E-MPN) must be completed. By completing the Electronic Master Promissory Note you will eliminate the signing of future notes. Your E-MPN will be transmitted directly to the United States Department of Education through a secure server. After submission you will be given instructions on how to print a copy of the E-MPN. If you exit the E-MPN process before submission you will have to start from the beginning when you re-enter. Please have the following information in front of you prior to beginning the E-MPN process so that you don't have to exit before completing the E-MPN:
- Your PIN from the United States Department of Education. If you do not have a PIN you will be given the option of going to the PIN web site to obtain a PIN.
- Your permanent address and telephone number.
- Your e-mail address (optional). If you have an e-mail address we strongly suggest that you provide it so you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your E-MPN submission.
- Your full legal name and Social Security Number (you may wish to have your Social Security card in front of you).
- Your Driver's license number, if applicable (you may wish to have your Driver's license in front of you).
- Complete name, addresses, and telephone numbers of two references who have known you for at least three years. One reference should be a parent or legal guardian if available. The references must be two different people at different addresses within the United States.
- If you are a first time borrower* under the Federal Stafford Direct Loan Program you will also need to complete a Direct Loan entrance interview.
We are very please to be able to offer you the opportunity to complete the E-MPN that will help to simplify the financial aid process for you. Should you, however, wish to complete a paper MPN rather than the E-MPN, please contact our office at (410) 704-4236 and request a paper MPN. Allow approximately two weeks for receipt of the paper copy.
*A first time borrower is defined as someone who has not received a Federal Direct Subsidized, Federal Direct Unsubsidized, Federal Stafford, or Federal SLS loan since the 1993-94 academic year.
