Towson, Md. (May 12, 2010) For a second time, Joshua Giltinan, an undergraduate student in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences, has been selected to participate in the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. SURF provides undergraduates with an opportunity to participate in a mentorship-driven research program. During the summer, selected fellows work with internationally known NIST scientists conducting cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art facilities. The objective of the program is to encourage careers in science and engineering. Giltinan will be working in the Physics Lab in Gaithersburg, Md., and will receive a $4,500 summer stipend plus living accommodations. He is sponsored by Jeffrey Simpson, assistant professor in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences.
