This Towson University institutional data should be used in the preparation of proposals.

Mailing Address

All original award documents are maintained in the OSPR. The mailing address should be the OSPR, not the PI's address. The PI should be listed only as the technical contact.

The applicant is Towson University; therefore, the university is the only legal entity that can accept awards. The only authorized signatory is the Provost or designee, the Assistant Vice President for Research, and that signatory's designee. The only authorized signature for contracts and award documents is the Provost, the Vice President of Administration and Finance and Chief Fiscal Officer's, or his designee.

University Information

Towson University, established January 15, 1866, is a public liberal arts-based comprehensive university that is nonprofit, tax-exempt, and state-supported, as determined by the federal Internal Revenue Code and Maryland state statutes. It is one of the 12 member institutions of the University System of Maryland. The university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Maryland State Board of Education.

Compliances/Certifications

TU also has Drug-Free Workplace, Conflict of Interest, and Scholarly Misconduct policies and procedures.  Effective August 19, 1991, all federally-funded sponsored projects that involve human participants need to certify that the IRB (Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Participants) has approved the protocol. All  certifications must be completed by the OSPR. When submitting a proposal to the OSPR, please attach all blank certification forms to the Proposal Review and Approval Form so that we may have them signed by the university signatory.

The OSPR has on file a tax exempt statement and a list of the Board of Regents if copies are needed of these documents.

State Review of Applications

Some applications to federal agencies must also be reviewed by the Maryland State Clearinghouse as covered by State Executive Order 12372. This review requires that we submit a copy of such a proposal to the MSC at the time it is submitted to the federal agency. Please check with the OSPR to determine if this is the case with your application.
