The Center for GIS at Towson University offers an interactive Web-based mapping tool that delivers the real-time information needed in emergencies like hurricanes, major transportation incidents and power outages.
Known as EMMA©, the Emergency Management Mapping Application helps decision makers in government and in emergency operations centers throughout the mid-Atlantic plan for and respond to local, state and national disasters.

EMMA is software that uses geographic information systems (GIS) technology to display real-time information about incident locations, weather, traffic, hospital bed status and more in the visual language of maps. During an emergency, features on a map can change color based on their status. Sharing and seeing information in this way helps emergency providers and responders communicate and make decisions together.
