General Education Requirements in Mathematics

Each student should consult those portions of the University Catalog describing his or her major and minor programs to see whether specific mathematics courses are required or recommended.

The I.C (College Mathematics) category of the General Education Requirements (GenEd) may be satisfied by any of the mathematics courses listed below, except as noted. Students, however, should enroll in the mathematics course for which they have the necessary high school or collegiate background and which is most relevant to their program of study. Placement tests may be used to help select the appropriate course.

MATH 105 and MATH 106 are intended as a terminal mathematics course and satisfiy the GenEd I.C requirement.

MATH 103 is a special course designed for those highly motivated students who are placed into Developmental Mathematics 110, and who intend to take MATH 105 as their GenEd Requirement.  In one term; this course covers the curricular material in both DVMT 110 and MATH 105, and satisfies the GenEd I.C requirement.

MATH 111 is designed specifically for students majoring in business, economics, psychology, or the social sciences, and satisfies the GenEd I-C requirement.

MATH 109 is a special course designed for those highly motivated students majoring in business, economics, psychology, or the social sciences, who are placed into Developmental Mathematics 110, and who plan to take MATH 111.  In one term; this course covers the curricular material in both DVMT 110 and MATH 111, and satisfies the GenEd I.C requirement.

MATH 115 and MATH 119 are designed specifically for students majoring in mathematics, computer science, and the physical or biological sciences, and either one satisfies the GenEd I.C requirement. Math 251 and the sequence of MATH 204-205 are designed specifically for students majoring in elementary or early childhood education. Of these three, only MATH 205 satisfies the GenEd I.C requirement.

MATH 211, MATH 231, MATH 237, MATH 263, MATH 273, MATH 274, and MATH 275 are intended for students with additional previous preparation in mathematics. Each one satisfies the GenEd I.C requirement.

MATH 283, MATH 284 and MATH 293 are an Honors courses in mathematics. They satisfy the GenEd I-C requirement.

MATH 305 may be used as a Non-Lab course to help satisfy the II.A category (Scientivic Inquiry) of the General Education Requirements.
