Maryland State Department of Education Certification Requirements
The Maryland State Department of Education requires all individuals employed as teachers, administrators or specialists in Maryland public schools to obtain certification.
Licensure to teach in Maryland secondary (grades 7– 12) schools can be achieved by satisfying the following four steps:
Obtain minimum qualifying scores on one of the four following standardized tests:
Praxis I: Applicants may meet the basic skills testing requirement by meeting each minimum qualifying score for the three separate Skills Test Areas, or by obtaining a composite score of these three Skills Test Areas of at least 527.
