The name of this organization
shall be Mathematics Club.
Article II – Purpose
The purpose of the Mathematics
Club shall be:
a.
To provide insight of how mathematics can be applied and utilized
outside of the classroom.
b.
To provide opportunities for students and faculty members to discuss
mathematical ideas.
c.
To provide opportunities for students to exhibit their mathematical
skills.
Article III – Membership
Section 1 – Active membership of the
Mathematics Club shall be chosen without discrimination on the basis of
race, color, religion, age, national origin, disability, marital status,
veteran status, sexual orientation or gender.
Students must have at least a 2.0
GPA and be fee paying undergraduate student to be an active member of
the club.
Active membership includes the
right to vote and hold office.
Section 2 – Members of the Mathematics
Club should embrace mathematics.
Article IV – Executive Officers
Section 1 – The executive officers of the
Mathematics Club will form the Executive Committee and shall be as
follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.All Executive Officers must be fee paying, undergraduate Towson
University students with at least a 2.0 GPA.
Section 2 – An officer may be impeached by
a 2/3 majority vote of the present active members if he or she is not
fulfilling his/her constitutional duties.
Section 3 – In the event that an officer
is impeached or resigns, an election shall be held for that position in
accordance with Article VI – Elections.
Article V – Duties of the Executive Officers
President
– To provide general leadership to the club, to preside over Executive
Committee and general meetings; appoint special committees with approval
of the Executive Committee; and to perform other such duties as may be
required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.
Vice President – To perform the
duties of the President should the President be absent; to plan and
organize publicity for activities and special events; and to perform
other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of
the Executive Committee.
Secretary
– To attend all general correspondence of the Mathematics Club; to keep
the minutes of all Executive Committee and general meetings; and to
preserve the records of the club; and to perform other such duties as
may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive
Committee.
Treasurer
– To supervise the financial administration of all revenue and report
periodically to the Executive Committee and membership on the financial
condition of the club; and to perform other such duties as may be
required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.
Article VI – Elections
Section 1 - Elections of the officers
shall take place yearly during the third week of April.
a.
In the event of a resignation or an impeachment, a special meeting may
be scheduled to elect a new officer to fill the vacant position.
Section 2 - Elections will be chaired by
the advisor of the organization.
Section 3 - The Candidate with the
majority vote will fulfill their respective Executive position.
Section 4 - In the event of a tie a revote
will be done.
a.
In the event of a tie for a position which includes more than two
candidates, there will be a revote constituted of the candidates with
the top vote total
b.
In the event of a tie in any revote, the tiebreaker will be number of
hours logged in the Mathematics Club during the current semester
c.
In the event of the above tiebreaker failing to decide a winning
candidate, a coin will be flipped by the advisor in order to determine a
winner
Section 5 - Any active student member is
eligible to vote who:
a.
Meets the Towson University SGA eligibility for membership in the club
b.
Attends the scheduled election meeting
c.
Logs at least three (3) hours in Mathematics Club activities or
meetings, where each meeting counts as one (1) hour
Section 6 - Any active student member is
eligible for nomination as an officer of the Executive Committee who:
a.
Meets the Towson University SGA eligibility for student office holding
b.
Logs at least six (6) hours in Mathematics Club activities or meetings,
where each meeting counts as one (1) hour
c.
Fulfills the qualifications as set up by this constitution and the
Executive Committee.
Section 7 - Elections will be conducted in
the following fashion:
a.
All candidates nominated for President will stand before the Math Club
and give a brief explanation depicting their desire to become president.
b.
All members of the Math Club will cast one (and only one) vote for their
desired candidate via a show of hands.Presidential candidates are exempt from voting for this position.
c.
All candidates nominated for Vice President will stand before the Math
Club and give a brief explanation depicting their desire to become Vice
President.
d.
All members of the Math Club will cast one (and only one) vote for their
desired candidate via a show of hands.Vice Presidential candidates are exempt from voting for this
position.
e.
All candidates nominated for Secretary will stand before the Math Club
and give a brief explanation depicting their desire to become Secretary.
f.
All members of the Math Club will cast one (and only one) vote for their
desired candidate via a show of hands.Secretarial candidates are exempt from voting for this position.
g.
All candidates nominated for Treasurer will stand before the Math Club
and give a brief explanation depicting their desire to become Treasurer.
h.
All members of the Math Club will cast one (and only one) vote for their
desired candidate via a show of hands.Treasurer candidates are exempt from voting for this position.
Section 8
– A valid election is defined as an election in which the following
calculation is achieved:
a.Determine the average
number of members that attended each meeting during the semester
b.At least 51% of the
above average must be in attendance at the election
Article VII – Amendments
Section 1 - Amendments to this
Constitution may be proposed to the voting membership by majority vote
of the Executive Committee or by petition signed by ¼ of the voting
membership.Amendments shall
be declared or adopted upon SGA approval.
Article VIII – By-Laws
Section 1 - By-Laws, not inconsistent with
this constitution, may be adopted or amended by a 2/3 majority of the
voting members present at any general or special meetings, provided the
By-Laws are submitted in writing at least one week previously at either
regular or special meetings of the general membership and upon SGA
approval.
Section 2 – Attendance to a meeting
constitutes attending at least 50% or thirty (30) minutes of the meeting
