Our Mission
The Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies focuses on the study of the structure, processes, aesthetics, functions, ethics and criticism of mass media and human communication. Students gain knowledge in theory and research as well as practical skills that are applicable to a wide range of careers. It is the mission of the department to help provide students with the tools needed to navigate the communication challenges of the 21st century.
Our Vision
The Department of Mass Communication and Communications Studies at Towson University will be the leader in the Mid-Atlantic region by providing communication excellence in visual, verbal and written competencies for the 21st century. We will:
Provide students broad and diverse course work in advertising, journalism and new media, public relations, and communication studies.
Offer high-quality educational programs which enable students to become critical thinkers and effective, ethical communicators.
Use practical, innovative experiences and partnerships to prepare students for successful communication careers.
Maintain and enhance strong relationships with alumni and community leaders from business, government and the nonprofit sector.

Jeremy Bauer-Wolf was one of 20 students selected from 143 applicants to work as a multimedia reporter covering the Online News Association's 2011 conference. He is one of nine Towson students selected in the last six years for the position.
