Dr. Spaulding has experience in print, broadcast and online journalism. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2005. Prior to her appointment at Towson University in 2007, she spent nine years teaching journalism at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Md. Her research focuses on the history of Baltimore journalism. She has been published in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, American Journalism, Journalism History, Journalism Studies and Literary Journalism Studies. She lives in Baltimore and serves on the board of the Friends of the H.L. Mencken House, a group working to restore the lifelong home of the city's most famous journalist. Most Fridays she can be found at the weekly meeting of the Aging Newspaperman's Club in East Baltimore.
