Xylum Debate Institute for High School Students

Towson University in the Summer

Do you like winning at debate?

Consider the Xylum Debate Institute, a two-week summer debate camp that takes place July 13-27 at Towson University.

XDI brings a unique approach to debate teaching that focuses on persuasion, ethos and word efficiency over incomprehensible speed and pointless technicality.  Our curriculum focuses on fluency with advanced historical analysis and ethical theories, providing students with the tools to engage in critical interrogation of both their opponent’s arguments and themselves. The strength of our institute is our outstanding faculty and this curricular focus – a combination proven to dramatically improve student debate ability. Overall, we foster critical thinking about both U.S. policy in Latin America and the assumptions that underlie our understanding of the contemporary world.

Students seeking a longer camp experience will find our dates compatible with the Cal National Debate Institute and the Georgetown Debate Seminar.

Tuition

Tuition is $1,800 for the two-week institute and includes housing and food. Students stay in Towson University dormitories, learn in classrooms, lecture halls and media labs, and have access to world-class research facilities.
