Towson students Dayvon Love and Deven Cooper win CEDA National Championship. 

They bested more than 185 teams from across the country in college debate’s version of the US Open.  Past winners include Northwestern, Emory and Harvard.  Sophomores Deverick Murray and Adam Jackson qualified for the elimination rounds of the same championship tournament for their second year in a row.

Faculty Honor Outstanding Students Majoring in Mass Communication and Communication Studies

The Student Recognition Banquett date is Friday, April 25th.

Jad Melki, visiting professor, was on the team which won the news/documentary/public service award in the 11th annual Webby awards.

Melki assisted Kevin Sites, the innovative solo journalist (or SoJo) who reports from the world’s hotspots for Yahoo! news.  Melki and Sites covered the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, reporting from southern Lebanon during the height of the Israeli offensive, as cities like Tyre and Bint Jbail were destroyed and a humanitarian crisis quickly developed. Towson University and MCCS to host the Southeast Europe Youth Leadership Institute

This July, MCCS will host for the fifth year the Southeast Europe Youth Leadership Institute. The program (funded by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of State and Open Society Institute) brings together high school students and teachers from formerly Communist countries for a month-long study of debate, democracy, and leadership.
