Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies


Fall 2015 scholarship winners were honored at the annual MCCS banquet on April 30, 2015.

The Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies offers an impressive number of scholarships to qualified students. Some are general and recognize promising students, while others are more specific and recognize students who show an interest in a particular area of study.

The bulk of the scholarships are awarded during spring semester. Check here for specifics on what scholarships are available the beginning of each semester.

Department awards over $22,000 in scholarships

The MCCS department has awarded more than $30,000 in scholarship money to 18 MCCS students to help pay for their fall 2015 semesters.

This spring the department offered 12 scholarships to majors. The winners were chosen out of a pool of more than 100 applications and will receive awards ranging from $410 to $7,000.00. The MCCS scholarship committee consists of co-chairs Dr. Cynthia Cooper and Professor. Jenny Atwater and members Dr. Sandy Nichols, Dr. John Kirch, Professor Darcey Morris and Professor Marcy Lightfoot.

The majority of MCCS scholarships are awarded during the spring semester.

Applying for a Scholarship

To apply for a scholarship, follow these directions:

  • Log on to Blackboard
  • Click on the Community tab
  • Search for Mass Communication
  • When the search result for MCCS Scholarship Committee appears, look directly to the left. You will see a pull down menu with a double arrow.
  • Pull down, and you'll see the option to enroll.
  • Enroll in the community and you will be able to access scholarship information and applications.
