James Anthony

James Anthony has taught Music History and Literature at Towson University since 1971.   He holds degrees from the University of Arkansas and the University of Michigan.   Dr. Anthony serves as a consultant and reviewer of textbooks in music literature.   He worked on the Jeremy Yudkin text Understanding Music, published by Prentice Hall, and The Development of Western Music by K. Marie Stolba.   Trained as an organist, he still performs regularly and is the organist/choirmaster at St. John's Episcopal Church in Glyndon, MD.

Dr. Anthony's interest in opera inspired him to establish the Opera on Film lecture series at Towson as part of the Maryland Arts Festival in 1987.  He also lectures frequently for the Baltimore Opera Company.  He is active in service to the Music Department, the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Towson University.
