Ben Chouinard is an active performer and teacher in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. He studied the bass trombone at Northwestern University, The Pennsylvania State University, and the Peabody Conservatory. While at Peabody, Mr. Chouinard founded and conducted both the Peabody Brass Choir and the Brass Orchestral Repertory Class. He has performed with the National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Baltimore Opera Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, the Harrisburg Symphony, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra and he served as the acting bass trombonist for the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra for the 2000-2001 Season. In 1998, Ben was the winner of the National Solo Competition for bass trombone at the Eastern Trombone Workshop.
In the spring of 2003, he toured with the National Symphony Orchestra in the American Residencies Program sponsored by the Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has performed with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra in live radio broadcasts on National Public Radio and in nationally televised performances on PBS. Mr. Chouinard can be heard on the Washington Symphonic Brass’s recording Ancient Airs for Brass and Organ, as well as the group’s new release Dances with Brass on the Summit label. Ben is on the faculties of Towson University, Morgan State University, Community Colleges of Baltimore at Essex, and the Peabody Preparatory.
