Steve is a graduate of Berklee College Of Music where he studied with Gary Burton, John LaPorta, and Bill Leavitt. He adopted the seven-string guitar in 1993. Steve Herberman has performed at Birdland in NYC, Spazio in Los Angeles, the NAMM shows in Anaheim and Nashville, Blues Alley, The Smithsonian Jazz Cafe, the Kennedy Center and the East Coast Jazz Festival all in and around DC. He has performed with bassists Buster Williams, Keter Betts, Steve LaSpina, Luther Hughes and Steve Novosel. Saxophonists Buck Hill and Gary Bartz. Trumpeters Terell Stafford and Tom Williams and pianist Larry Willis. Drummers Jeff Hirshfield, Steve Williams and Chuck Redd. Steve has appeared numerous times with guitarist John Pisano, and has performed with guitarists Ben Monder, Howard Alden, and John Stowell.

Steve Herberman has taught at Towson University since 1999 as an adjunct faculty member. At Towson he directs the TU jazz guitar ensemble, teaches private guitar lessons, guitar history, guitar pedagogy and performs in the faculty jazz ensemble featuring original compositions of new music. He was a guest artist and symposium moderator at the First World Guitar Congress in June 2004 where he lead discussions with Jim Hall, John Scofield, Ralph Towner and others.

Steve has taken his workshops to various schools; most recently to Duquesne University and Virginia Commonwealth University. He has written instructional material for Downbeat magazine and Mel Bay's Guitar Sessions. Steve writes a monthly column for www.modernguitars.com called "Jazz Scope" and does equipment reviews for Jazz Times. Steve is on the faculty of Maryland Summer Jazz and has taught for the Levine School Of Music.

Steve Herberman has two CD's available on his own Reach Music label. Thoughtlines 2002 and his newest, Action:Reaction 2006 featuring his original compositions with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Mark Ferber.
