Before accepting the position of Assistant Professor of Trombone at Towson University, Natalie Mannix performed with the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC for 9 years. Additionally, she is principal trombonist with the Delaware Symphony. An active trombone soloist with the Navy Band and Navy Band Brass Quintet, she has performed as guest artist and clinician at colleges and universities throughout the United States, including a recent pedagogical lecture and performance at the Midwest Band and Orchestra clinic in Chicago. She was also a featured soloist at the International Women's Brass Conference and the Eastern Trombone Workshop.
Before enlisting in the Navy Band, she was a freelance trombonist and euphonium player in the New York City area where she was a featured performer in “Live at Lincoln Center” on PBS and with the Juilliard Orchestra on its nationally broadcasted television concert from Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan. She has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and the Washington Opera and Kennedy Center Orchestras. She has also performed with several regional orchestras and brass ensembles, taught adjunct at Shepherd and Georgetown Universities and served on the faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Dr. Mannix received her Bachelor of Music and the Arts degree at the University of Michigan, her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Catholic University. Her teachers include Dennis Smith, David Langlitz, Joe Alessi and Milt Stevens.
