Sara Nichols
Picture of Sara NicholsSara Nichols is Principal Flute of the Baltimore Opera Orchestra. An active performer in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, her appearances include the National Gallery Orchestra, the Wolf Trap Orchestra, and the Harrisburg and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, in addition to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. She is former Principal Flute of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and was Acting Assistant Principal Flute of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for two seasons. She has also made solo appearances with the Florida, Annapolis, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. As a member of the Towson Fine Arts Wind Quintet she gave master classes and recitals at Russia's St. Petersburg Conservatory. In addition, she plays traverso as a member of Pro Musica Rara.

In 2002, Ms. Nichols was a recipient of the Dean's Recognition Award for Excellence in Teaching. She is a past member of the Advisory Boards of both the Flute Society of Washington and Miyazwa Flutes, U.S.A.

A member of the TU faculty since 1981, she is also on the faculty of the Baltimore School of the Arts. Ms. Nichols, a graduate of Auburn University, received the Master of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers include Robert Cavally, Britton Johnson, Timothy Day and Lida Mayfield.
