Dr. Phillips received a B.S. in Music Education from Central Michigan University, the Master of Arts degree in Voice/Television/Opera Production from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Philosophy (Aesthetics) from Temple University in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. His primary assignment is the teaching of singing in the Department of Music
Dr. Phillips has performed over 45 operatic roles, among them, the title role in Rigoletto, the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in Wozzeck, Count di Luna in Il Trovatore, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte, and John Proctor in The Crucible. He has sung many performances of chamber music, oratorio, and recital throughout the Baltimore/D.C. region. He is presently serving as the Jazz Vocal Co-coordinator for the Department of Music at Towson.
While working on his doctorate, and since receiving it, Dr. Phillips has taught in the Music, Philosophy, Art, and Humanities departments at Towson University and guest lectured for Cultural studies, Mass Comm. and Theatre. He helped develop an innovative Cultural Studies Program at Towson. He conceived, developed, organized and executed two major conferences on aesthetics, music, and various aspects of philosophy presented at Towson University. He has developed a regionally recognized honors course based on Umberto Eco’s novel, The Name of the Rose, and lead the development of an interdisciplinary aesthetics/ethics course. He helped design and organize an interdisciplinary graduate seminar on Postmodern Art Theory. Dr. Phillips has delivered papers and guest lectured on various aspects of aesthetics, ethics, interdisciplinarity, and diversity at conferences in the US and abroad.
