Oboist Leslie Starr received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from St. John’s College before earning a Bachelor’s of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Joseph Turner, longtime principal oboist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Starr is currently principal oboist of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Bach Concert Series, and the Key West Symphony, and was principal oboe with the Delaware Symphony for ten years. Appointed to the position of professor of oboe at Towson University in 1997, she is a member of Quintígre, the faculty wind quintet, and also appears in other chamber music ensembles at the university. In addition, Ms. Starr has been oboe instructor at the Baltimore School for the Arts since 1992.

Ms. Starr has been on call as substitute oboe with the Baltimore Symphony since February 1982 and served several lengthy periods as acting second oboe with that orchestra. She played for music director David Zinman and can be heard on the BSO’s Telarc CD “La Marseilles”. She also played for the first three years of Yuri Temirkanoff’s tenure and took part in the BSO’s 2001 European tour, which included performances in London, Paris, Vienna, and Berlin.
