Alicia Mueller

Alicia Mueller serves as the Music Education Division Leader in the Towson University Department of Music. Among her responsibilities as the Elementary and Early Childhood General Music Specialist, she supervises student interns; teaches the vocal-general P-8 methods/foundation courses for music education majors; teaches the Maryland State Department of Education required reading courses to music education majors; teaches the elementary education music methods courses for non-music majors; teaches specialized courses in various areas of music education, such as Orff Schulwerk techniques; serves on graduate theses and project committees; serves as an informal advisor to music majors; and contributes to the departmental recruitment of students.


Mueller serves as a liaison with regional public and private schools and instructional settings, also functioning as a primary consultant with student intern placements for the College of Education Center for Professional Practice. Additionally, she continues to teach young children in her music methods collaborative partnerships with the Towson University Student Day Care Center. Finally, she teaches as part of the faculty with the College of Fine Arts and Communication Arts Integration Institute.


Mueller received her Ed.D. from Arizona State University; M.S. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; bachelor's degree from Tennessee Technological University; Orff Schulwerk Teacher's Certificate from George Mason University; and has studied the Dalcroze method with Bob Abramson at the University of Illinois.


Mueller is an active clinician at national, regional, and local levels, presenting and coordinating workshops, clinics, and in-service presentations on topics ranging from movement and music instruction, music for young children, reading and writing across the curriculum, and the integration of music and the arts across the curriculum, to Orff Schulwerk techniques and teacher training topics. Mueller has served as the President of the Maryland General Music Teachers Association, as well as the Collegiate Membership Chair. She has published articles in National Association for Music Education journals ranging from Teaching Music and General Music Today to the Maryland and Washington State Music Education journals and The Orff Echo.
