Music Education Program Development
Committee Charge
April 2003
The charge to the MUED Program Development Committee, an ad hoc committee, is to develop programs or curricula for the Bachelor of Science in Music Education that:
1) meet national and state standards for collegiate music education and fulfill the accreditation standards of MSDE, NCATE and NASM;
2) meet the professional needs of graduates entering the field of K-12 music education in the 21st century;
3) stand as a model of excellence, not merely competence, for higher education in Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region;
4) maintain or increase student demand for the curricula;
5) support the university and departmental mission statements;
6) seek creative and collaborative efficiencies so the program will not exceed credit-hour totals of comparable degree programs of excellence.
This committee should forward its proposal(s) by May 2004 to the Department of Music Curriculum Committee for review.
