Orchestra Audition Information

The Towson University Symphony Orchestra is open to all students by audition.  Auditions are held during the first week of each semester and are required for anyone, including returning students, who wish to play in the orchestra.

All brass, woodwind, and percussion auditions are heard by both the orchestra conductor and the symphonic band conductor.  Students will then be placed into an ensemble.  All string players must sign up for audition also held during the first week of class.

Audition Requirements for All Instruments:  Major and minor scales, 2 student-selected excerpts or solos (one fast/technical, the other slow/lyrical), and sight-reading.

Brass and Woodwinds: Please sign up outside Dr. Rothlisberger’s office.

Strings:  Please sign up outside Dr. Leach’s office (CA #3097). String auditions will be held during the regularly scheduled orchestra rehearsal time – Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-3:15PM  in the fall.  Orchestra rehearsals will begin the second week of each semester.

*Audition sign-up sheets will be posted prior to the first day of class.
