Meet the Conductor

Picture of Brenda LeachBrenda Lynne Leach joined the music faculty at Towson University in 2005. She came to Maryland from Boston where she was the Artistic Director/Conductor of the Boston Chamber Orchestra, and a Lecturer and Conductor at Harvard University. As both conductor and concert organist, Dr. Leach has performed throughout France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Russia, Bulgaria, Estonia and the USA.  She was a featured artist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has performed solo recitals at venues including St. Petersburg Grand Philharmonic Hall (Russia), Notre Dame Cathedral (Paris), and Westminster Cathedral (London) among many others.

Dr. Leach is also a frequent Guest Conductor. Conducting credits include concerts with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the St. Petersburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Hermitage Museum (Russia), the Bostonian Opera Ensemble, and the Varna State Symphony Orchestra (Bulgaria) to name a few. She has also appeared at numerous festivals as conductor and featured artist including those at Interlochen and Chautauqua, as well as many international festivals.

Brenda Leach studied conducting with Neeme Jarvi and Sir David Willcocks, and completed post-doctoral studies in Orchestra Conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music (Russia) with Maestro Alexander Polishchuk. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music, as well as the Master of Arts in Education from Harvard University. She won the coveted Premier Prix d-Excellence (with Honors) and the Premier Prix de Virtuosite from the Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison in France.
