All B.M. degrees include upper-division electives. These are normally fulfilled by enrolling in existing MUSC 3xx or 4xx, 3-credit courses.

Students who would prefer to count either MUSC 493 (Independent Research in Music) or MUSC 497 (Internship in Music) toward upper division elective credit must:

1. Write a letter of petition to the department chairperson, explaining the reasons why the substitution is needed;
2. Meet with the department chairperson to obtain approval of the petition;
3. Complete the form "Proposal to count MUSC 493 or MUSC 497 toward upper division elective credit." The form is available in the office of the Assistant to the Chairperson.
