The Rockschool

The Rockschool curriculum offers a structured course of study for all ages and abilities.  The student learns to play songs in many different contemporary styles from latin to hip hop.  Books come with a CD for all the songs.  This makes it easy and fun to learn and practice with the ensemble at home.

A graded list of songs has been developed by experts in rock and roll education.  The solid course structure will develop and build skills to prepare the student to be in a rock band.  Students can study the Rockschool both through private instruction and as part of a rock band. The Music Preparatory has instructors for private and group study.

It is not necessary to take private lessons at the Music Preparatory to be in the rock band.  Those wishing to be in the rock band should be taking private lessons on their instrument with a teacher willing to work with the Rockschool syllabus.   Students must have studied their instrument at least one year and take a placement audition.

Students may wish to have their skills assessed.  Yearly exams are offered by Trinity Guildhall.  Trinity Guildhall is an internationally accredited institution.  Those who pass the upper grades will be eligible for high school or college credit.  It is not necessary to be in the rock band to be assessed on individual skills.  Those participating in examinations will also need to demonstrate improvisational, ear training and sight reading skills.  Individual and group assessments for guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals are offered.  Full information and syllabuses are available from the

The rock groups will be directed by Dane Krich.  Dane is the percussion instructor at the prep and has extensive experience playing with local rock groups.
