The Music Preparatory
Division was established in 1983 as an
extension of the Department of
Music
to provide non-credit instruction for children and adults at all levels
of experience and interest. The goal of the Music Preparatory Division
is to nurture self-expression, creativity and a lasting love for music
in its students. |

Why Study Music at Towson University's Music Preparatory?
Towson
University has been a leader in the education of teachers in Maryland since its
founding in 1866. Our teachers continue the tradition of
instructional excellence. The faculty of musician-educators are graduates
of music academies and with many
years of teaching experience and committed to excellent music education.
Our mission is to develop, to the fullest, the music
potential of every student. We match learning style, musical aspirations and
personalities of the student with an appropriate teacher.
The wide variety of programs we offer can conveniently meet the needs of the
individual student or several family members.
Our faculty and students participate in various evaluation activities throughout
the year. The evaluation activities can be informal or more structured and demanding. These can be tailored to the desires and aspirations
of the individual student. The activities include master classes, recitals,
public performances as well as Trinity Guildhall testing and
assessments.
The Music Prep offers the chance to be part of the arts community and a chance
to help in strengthening the
community in the Baltimore region. There are regular concerts, performances and
art exhibitions given by university
and preparatory faculty, visiting artists, and university students. There
are also opportunities to attend theater and dance productions as well as
visiting the Asian Arts Gallery. Your support can help to
strengthen, grow and become a vital asset to our community and society.
