Where can I find information about graduate assistantships?
Information can be obtained from the assistantship website. Information can also be obtained by searching the Towson website for graduate assistantships. Throughout the months before you begin school, there are usually openings on campus that will be forwarded to you if and when they become available.
Where can I find a job if I don’t get an assistantship?
There are many jobs available in the Towson area. Although having a job your first semester may not be the first thing you want to do. Some helpful websites are the Career Center, the Towerlight, or the Sun newspaper.
Where do I get a parking permit?
This can be obtained at the Auxiliary Services Business Office, University Union Room 118. If your vehicle has out-of-state plates, you need to purchase a non-resident permit for the state of Maryland. This needs to be obtained if you are living/boarding in Maryland in excess of 30 days and can be purchased also at the Auxiliary Services Business office or through the Maryland Motor Vehicle Association. (It is easiest to purchase it through Auxiliary Services.) You will need a photocopy of your driver’s license, your vehicle registration card, and your Towson University ID. (This costs $27.00 for the year.) More information can be found at parking services or Maryland Motor Vehicle Association.
Where and when do I get a Towson University One Card?
These are also available at the Auxiliary Services Business Office (University Union Room 118). You can get this anytime after you register for fall classes. To make things easy, you can get your One Card, parking permit, and non-resident tag all at the same time at the Auxiliary Services Office.
How do I become a legal resident of Maryland for tuition
purposes?
You must apply through the university to become a legal resident of
the state of Maryland if you were not deemed in-state at the time you submitted
your application. In order to do this, you must fill out a Petition for In-State
Residency, which you can get from the Office of Records and Transcripts,
Enrollment Services Room 223. You must meet certain criteria for twelve consecutive
months to become a resident of Maryland for tuition purposes. You will want to
start this process as soon as you move to Maryland. After meeting all the
requirements, you may apply until the last day to register for the term for
which you are seeking the change in status. You may apply only once a semester.
In addition to the application, you must meet the following requirements:
You must not be financially dependent upon another person residing outside of the state of Maryland (must not be included as a dependent on another’s taxes). You must not be residing in the state of Maryland primarily to attended school.
You must show evidence of your citizenship (birth certificate or passport).
If married, you must show marriage license (greater than twelve months).
You must show deed or current lease agreement and canceled checks for at least twelve-month period.
If you are registered to vote, it must be in Maryland for the last twelve months.
You must show a valid Maryland driver’s license, if you drive, possessed for at least twelve months. You must obtain your driver’s license within sixty days of moving to Maryland, if you plan to change. You also must have your vehicle registered within sixty days of moving (although I think you have thirty days from receiving your driver’s license).
You must show your title and vehicle registration for any vehicle you own, valid for twelve months.
You must show all W-2 forms and all pages of both state and federal tax returns for the last year.
